Astronomy Talk: Water on Mars

PastMonday, October 07, 2019 - 06:30 PM - 07:30 PM

Dr. Timothy Dowling, Director of the Atmospheric Science Program at the University of Louisville, will lead a discussion about the recent discoveries of liquid water on Mars. Mars has the same surface area as Earth in terms of dry land, which gives a sense of the challenge of exploring the red planet. Recently, NASA used high-resolution images to discover liquid water running down the slopes of the hills—near the equator during the heat of the day—today, not millions of years ago. Dr. Dowling will review what satellites and rovers have uncovered on Mars regarding water past, present and future. Ages 12+ Dr. Timothy Dowling is an internationally recognized authority on planetary atmospheres, and has appeared on the National Geographic, Discovery and History Channels.
