Reading Kanafani in Kentucky

PastThursday, February 28, 2019 - 06:30 PM - 08:30 PM

"Reading Kanafani in Kentucky" invites the Louisville community to participate in a public conversation about the loss of home, involuntary relocation, and the struggle to return to the place we belong. University of Louisville's Dr. Russel Vandenbroucke will direct a staged reading of the powerful new theatrical adaptation of Ghassen Kanafani's "Returning to Haifa" by playwrights Ismail Khalidi and Kentucky's own Naomi Wallace. The reading will be followed by a facilitated audience conversation about personal experiences with the themes of the play, including gentrification and displacement. This staged reading is supported by the University of Louisville's Cooperative Consortium for Interdisciplinary Social Justice Research, Departments of Philosophy, Theatre Arts, and Urban & Public Planning.
