Interlibrary Loan Services

Louisville Free Public Library does not charge for Interlibrary Loans. Some fees may be assessed by the lending library. When making a loan request, patrons set the maximum amount they are willing to pay. LFPL staff will always try to obtain a free copy before borrowing for a fee. U.S. census microfilm and some libraries charge a fee for loaning books. Any photocopying, overdue fines, or replacement costs for lost materials are the responsibility of the patron. Fees are to be paid upon receipt of the item. If the item requested cannot be obtained, there will be no fee.

Materials obtained through Interlibrary Loan are usually available in 6-8 weeks from the time the request is made. Patrons will be notified by mail or phone when the materials arrive. Patrons can also receive email notification. Check with your branch library or call the Telereference department (574-1611) for details.

To check on the status of an Interlibrary Loan request that has already been submitted, call the Interlibrary Loan department at 574-1713 or send an e-mail to ILL@lfpl.org .

In special circumstances a renewal may be requested unless the lending library has designated the item as non-renewable. All renewal requests should be directed to the Interlibrary Loan department at 574-1713.

Please select the type of material you are requesting from the following options. Be prepared to provide as much information as possible about the item requested.
