- American History Documents from the Library of Congress
- The Avalon Project at Yale Law School - Provides access to primary source materials in the fields of Law, History, Economics, Politics, Diplomacy and Government. The documents are both from American history and world history.
- National Archives and Records Administration - The NARA is the holder of public documents from our nation's history.
- U.S. Congressional Documents and Debates - The Library of Congress has provided documents from the Continental Congress, Journals of Congress and Debates of Congress.
- I Have a Dream Speech - This speech was delivered by Martin Luther King, Jr. on August 28, 1963 in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
- Letter from the Birmingham Jail - This was written on April 16, 1963 by Martin Luther King, Jr.
- Mayflower Compact - The Mayflower Compact , which was signed aboard The Mayflower in 1620 set forth principles of tolerance and liberty for the government of a new colony in the New World.
- Missouri Compromise - In 1819, Congressman James Tallmadge of New York introduced an amendment that would prohibit further growth of slavery in Missouri and would set the children of Missouri's slaves free.

- Digital History - Includes an up-to-date U.S. history textbook; annotated primary sources on United States, Mexican American, and Native American history, and slavery; and essays on the history of ethnicity and immigration, film, private life, and science and technology.

- September 11 News.com - This site was created by a Canadian on September 11, 2001 and is continuously updated. It includes front pages of newspapers and magazines as well as statistics.

Kentucky History
- Kentuckiana Digital Library - "The Kentuckiana Digital Library is a digital library of primary sources and access aids selected by Kentucky archivists representing 15 Kentucky colleges, universities, libraries and historical society repositories."
- Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives - KDLA provides archival and historical resources for the State of Kentucky. They house a variety of historical records and other material.
- Kentucky Historical Society - "The Kentucky Historical Society was founded in 1836 to collect and preserve the artifacts, papers and other documentation of Kentucky's history. "
- Kentucky Explorer Magazine - "The Kentucky Explorer presents all types of material about our state each month. This material may be in the form of new, original work, often sent in by our readers; or it may be material, which has already been published. In some cases, edited and interesting passages from long-forgotten newspapers, books, and magazines are presented for our readers' enjoyment."
- Kentucky in the Military - Contains links to information about Kentucky participation in various wars through the Civil War. It includes a large set of links on Kentucky's participation in the Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican and Civil Wars.
- Kentucky State History
- Kentucky Civil War Information - Primary sources as well as Kentucky Civil War links.
- Council of the Southern Mountain Records - This collection documents changes in welfare rights, miners' rights, mine health and safety, strip mining, and women's rights, among other things, in the Southern Appalachian Region. A finding aid for this collection, as well as one for the first set of CSM documents (1912-1970) is located online in the Southern Appalachian Archives collections.
- The Orphan Brigade - This page presents historical and genealogical information on the largest unit from Kentucky to serve in the Confederate forces during the War Between the States, 1861-1865.
- Feuds in Breathitt County - A very nice site about feuds in Breathitt County. Includes a long descriptive contemporary article and many links to contemporary newspaper articles about the participants. Mostly about the Marcum-Hargis-Cockrell feud with a few others mentioned.
- Secretary of State Land Office - "The Secretary of State's Office is the place to start when researching Kentucky land acquisitions. All chain of title in the Commonwealth traces back to Virginia land patents and Kentucky land patents. In fact, all Kentucky deeds eventually trace back to an original patent recorded in the Kentucky Land Office."
- Lewis and Clark in Kentucky - "The mission of the Kentucky Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission is to educate Kentuckians and the nation about Kentucky's important role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition; assist governments and organizations with their Kentucky-related Lewis and Clark bicentennial events and projects; and perform other duties that will highlight and commemorate Kentucky's significant contribution to this historic achievement."
- The Filson Historical Society - The Filson Historical Society is the State's largest independent historical society. It's mission is to "collect, preserve, and tell the significant stories of Kentucky and the Ohio Valley history and culture."
