Classes for Job Seekers

If you are just beginning your job search and need information on how to get started, we offer the following classes (see online calendar for specific dates and times).
  • Resume Workshop: Learn how to compose an effective resume.
  • Career and Job Search Workshop: Overview of various internet job-searching sites, as well as information on workforce trends and services offered by local career centers.
  • Specialty Workshops*: For patrons with more focused needs. Here are just some of the free workshops we will offer

Computer Skills Classes

Computer classes are held in the Computer Learning Center on the 2nd floor of the Main Library. No registration is necessary, and all needed materials will be supplied (see online calendar for specific dates and times). Develop computer skills valued by employers and needed for a successful job search. Classes include:
  • Core Courses: Have little or no computer experience? These classes will help.
    • Windows Basics - Learn the different parts of a computer and how to use the mouse, print, save, get online, and other basic skills.
    • Internet Basics – Learn how to search for information online using Internet Explorer.
  • Microsoft Office: Hands-on introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes on the Microsoft Office programs that are often essential in today’s job market. These include:
    • Word - A typing program used to create resumes, cover letters, reports, mailing lists, and much more.
    • Excel – For creating spread sheets to organize and analyze data.
    • Publisher - Used to design business cards, newsletters, pamphlets, and other desktop publishing projects.
    • Powerpoint – For generating dynamic computerized slide shows.
    • Access – A program for constructing data bases to track and report information.

Teach Yourself Classes

To better serve all of our patrons, we also offer a variety of teach yourself learning opportunities through our Job Shop website, www.lfpl.org/jobshop. These can be done at your own pace and at a time that best fits your schedule. In fact, many of these are available from your home computer. Here is a sample of some of the resources available:
