Parents Page
This page gives parents a jumping off point for using the internet in addition to telling you about the library's services. Hopefully, you'll be able to find helpful child rearing hints as well as fun projects to do with the whole family. Be sure to check out the teacher's page and the homeschooling resources page for additional ideas.
Programs & Services
- Family Fun Back Packs - Lots of fun in a small package! The backpack sets cover a variety of themes and each includes books, instructions for games and crafts and the materials for the craft activities. The kits may be reserved and sent to the branch of your choice.
- Preschool Reading Program - Have we got a treat for your preschool age child! Every spring, LFPL sponsors a Preschool Reading Program. The reading folder is actually an extra-large coloring sheet with spaces to put the stickers that are included. Come in to any branch and pick up a folder! The Preschool Reading Program and the Louisville Free Public Library support Success by 6: Helping all children succeed for life. Learn more about Success by 6 by visiting their Web site.
- Reading Lists - The children's staff has gathered information for you concerning notable literature for children (and for teens, too). They have also developed reading suggestion lists that you and your child can read together in order to work through your child's concerns.
- Special Events - Throughout the year, children's library staff and outside entertainers perform for you and your child. These programs may include crafts, dance, magic, animals and many more.. Pick up a calendar at your branch or click on the link above to get the complete list of children's special events on our web site.
- Storytime - All locations of the library perform story hours for a variety of age ranges. Call your local library to find out convenient times or stop in and pick up a calendar.
- Summer Reading - The Louisville Free Public Library sponsors a reading program for children, ages birth through 14. After picking up a reading folder for each child, your child reads 10 books (or listens to them read). After returning the folder, each child received his or her prizes.
