A woman in Maine is spotted putting quarters in expired parking meters. A young man in Seattle is seen helping an older woman carry her groceries to the car (he does not work for the grocery store). A teen-aged girl in Louisville is seen giving the public librarian a carnation.

What do these events have in common? They are all "Random Acts of Kindness." A random act of kindness is when you do something nice for someone--not because you were told to, not because you have to, not because it is the "right" thing to do. You do it because you just feel like being nice!

What does this have to do with Teen Summer Reading? If you perform a random act of kindness, you can count that toward your requirements for completing the Summer Reading program! You get rewarded--just for being nice.
