Announcing Second Annual Teen Film Festival 

The Library is proud to annouce the second annual Louisville Young Filmmakers Festival slated for mid-March.

Students ages 12 to 19 are encouraged to submit their original film works to be shown at a red-carpet event at the Main Library.

Original films on any topic or genre are accepted. Films should be G- or PG- rated and suitable for a teen audience. Profanity and nudity are not allowed. Producers must be Louisville residents between the ages of 12 and 19. Films should be no longer than 15 minutes in length.


Deadline for Submissions is March 1, 2014

Submissions may be turned in, along with a completed entry form, at any Louisville Free Public Library. Submissions should be on a separate flash-drive or disc and addressed to the attention of “Michael Ward – Louisville Young Filmmakers Festival.”


Filmmaking Workshops

As part of the Festival, the Library will hold several workshops on film-making and editing. Students who attend the workshops will learn how to create, edit and manage their own digital content. All workshops will be held at the Main Library:

  • Saturday, January 11, 2:00 pm
  • Saturday, January 25, 10:00 am
  • Saturday, February 8, 2:00 pm
  • Saturday, February 22, 2:00 pm

Just Can't Wait! Fall Teen Lit Releases 
This fall promises to be full of some awesome new releases in the world of teen lit. We’ve already seen new books by Ellen Hopkins, Smoke , (released September 10) and Walter Dean Myers' Invasion (September 24)



October New Releases


Hold on to your hats! Here are some of the most anticipated titles of October: the fourth title in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series, House of Hades (releases on October 8); Allegiant, the fourth book in the Divergent series (October 22); and a new book in the House of Night series, Revealed (October 15)!

November New Releases


In November, we will see new titles from Margaret Peterson Haddix, Full Ride (November 12); Tamora Pierce, Battle Magic, from the Immortals series (November 24); and of course, we have the theatrical release of Catching Fire (November 22).

So much win for one season!

Join the Library Today at the Louisville Mini Maker Faire 
LFPL will be at the Louisville Mini Maker Faire (part of NuLu Fest) today on Market St., Noon-6 p.m., offering a different workshop each hour.

Join us for Animecon X! 


Main Library, Friday, August 2, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm


The Louisville Free Public Library is celebrating ten years of Animecon! The annual convention is a day-long celebration featuring anime-themed activities, games, contests, and more - FREE.

Highlights of this year’s event will include a performance by the Cincinnati-Dayton Taiko Drumming Group, a workshop on stop-motion animation, the annual ramen noodle eating contest, costume contests and anime screenings.
