Did you know that the Louisville Free Public Library has its own branch for teens? It is called the Teen Outpost and is located in the Midcity Mall, right next to the Highlands-Shelby Park Branch. The Outpost is like any other library. We have a collection of books and other materials, except our collection is geared for ages 12 through 19 and includes the largest Manga and graphic novel collection in the system. We have computers but ours have a "Teens First" policy. That means, if you come in and an adult is on the computer, we'll ask them to give it up if you need to use it. We are also a little more relaxed on the rules. You may have food and drink, but not near the computers. You can be a little louder than usual (there are limits) and we have all sorts of activities--planned and impromptu--going on at all times.
Most importantly, the Teen Outpost is a safe place where you can express yourself and utilize library resources.
Stop by today! Read a book, log onto a computer, play a game of cards, or just talk to some new friends. The Teen Outpost is the place to be this summer!

Join the Teen Outpost today for a discussion of Terry Pratchett's award-winning book, Nation.
Nation is the story of a young girl who is shipwrecked on a desert island. She meets a young boy whose village was wiped out by a tsunami. As other survivors appear, the two must take on the responsibility of rebuilding society.
The discussion will be at the Outpost at 4 p.m. The Teen Outpost is located in the Midcity Mall, 1250 Bardstown Road.
If you can't make the discussion but have read the book, add your comments here. Remember, adding a comment to our blog counts toward your summer reading requirements!

A woman in Maine is spotted putting quarters in expired parking meters. A young man in Seattle is seen helping an older woman carry her groceries to the car (he does not work for the grocery store). A teen-aged girl in Louisville is seen giving the public librarian a carnation.
What do these events have in common? They are all "Random Acts of Kindness." A random act of kindness is when you do something nice for someone--not because you were told to, not because you have to, not because it is the "right" thing to do. You do it because you just feel like being nice!
What does this have to do with Teen Summer Reading? If you perform a random act of kindness, you can count that toward your requirements for completing the Summer Reading program! You get rewarded--just for being nice.
Want to kill two birds with one stone? Post your random act of kidness on this blog and we can count that toward your TSR requirements as well!
