Award Winning Books

  • Alex Awards - Top 10 adult books for teens.
  • Mildred L. Batchelder Award - awarded to an American publisher for a children's book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a foreign language in a foreign country, and then translated into English.
  • The Bluegrass Award - The Kentucky Bluegrass Award is an annual presentation that was first awarded in 1983.  The program’s goal is to encourage children to read and enjoy a variety of books and select their favorite from a list of recently published books.  There are four grade divisions to the Kentucky Bluegrass Award--K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.  Between 15-25 titles are included in each division.  The author of the collectively favorite book from each division is awarded the Kentucky Bluegrass Award
  • Pura Belpre Award - Established in 1996, this award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
  • Margaret A. Edwards Award - The Margaret A. Edwards Award, established in 1988, honors an author's lifetime achievement for writing books that have been popular over a period of time.
  • Coretta Scott King Awards - presented to authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."
  • Newbery Medal - awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
  • Scott O'Dell Award - annual award to a children's or young adult book for distinguished work in historical fiction set in the New World (i.e., North, Central, or South America)
  • Printz Award - New award for excellence in Young Adult Literature.
  • Robert F. Sibert Information Book Award - awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished informational book published during the preceding year.
