The Northeast Regional Library, located on Bellevoir Circle off Ormsby Station Road near the Northeast YMCA, is a 40,000 square foot facility that opened on June 24, 2019.

Similar in size and scope to the Southwest and South Central Regional libraries, Northeast is the final of three regional libraries included in the Louisville Free Public Library’s Master Facilities Plan and will greatly enhance service for more than 170,000 people in eastern Jefferson County.

Features

The total price tag for construction, books, computers and furnishings is estimated at $17.8 million, with $14 million combined from the state and capital funds allocated by Mayor Fischer and approved by the Metro Council, and the additional $3.8 million raised from private donations to the Library Foundation.

LEED Certification

Built with advanced “green” technologies and eco-friendly architectural design, the Northeast Regional Library was awarded LEED Gold-certification in June 2020. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, an internationally recognized green building certification system providing third-party verification that a building was designed and built sustainably and with low environmental impact in mind. The Library’s green features include geothermal heating and cooling, daylight harvesting interior LED lighting, environmentally-friendly building materials, and energy efficient windows and fixtures.
