(September 17, 2025) – Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) announced today that they will be expanding hours at the Highlands-Shelby Park Library and signed a new lease to keep the library at Mid-City Mall for at least the next year. The Highlands-Shelby Park Library, located inside Mid-City Mall (1250 Bardstown Road), will add Sunday hours, 1-5 p.m., beginning November 2. In addition, Library Interim Executive Director Barbara Sexton Smith and Metro Government have signed a lease extension to keep the branch at the Mid-City Mall location through June 28, 2026. “Since day one, I’ve been listening to residents about their needs and responding to improve neighborhoods throughout our community, which includes expanding access to programming, resources, literacy supports, and early learning opportunities at our Louisville Free Public Library,” said Mayor Greenberg. “That’s why I’m excited to let residents know - we heard you and are expanding hours at the Highlands-Shelby Park location, opening new libraries, and renovating existing facilities to make our city safer, stronger, and healthier.” “I am so excited to expand hours at the Highlands-Shelby Park Library, increasing access for the community,” said Interim Executive Director Sexton Smith. “I’m also thankful to Mayor Greenberg for his support and Sandy Metz and her team for extending our lease through June of 2026, allowing the Library to continue to provide world-class services at Mid-City Mall.” “We recognize the importance of a Highlands and Shelby Park library to our community.
