Louisville Free Public Library News and Information JULY-AUGUST 2026 MyLibraryU Fast Class: The World of Martha Washington Although in recent years the "Founding Mothers" have been well represented in popular history, the first, First Lady, Martha Washington, is often absent. As the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding, Martha Washington’s life story and legacy demonstrate the complexity of identity during the 18th century. By analyzing Washington as a wife, mother, businesswoman, enslaver, and reluctant politician, we can gain a better understanding of women's experiences during the revolutionary and founding eras. This MyLibraryU Fast Class will be presented by Dr. Laura Ping, Asst. Professor of History at Bellarmine University. Tue., July 28, 6 PM • St. Matthews Library Register at LFPL.org/MyLibraryU Celebrating Our Neighborhood: The Cuisine, History & Music of Haiti Louisville is home to over 53,000 internationally-born residents, representing countries and communities from all over the globe. ST. MATTHEWS Thursdays, 11:15 AM SHIVELY Thursdays, 10:30 AM WESTERN Mondays, 6 PM BON AIR Mondays, 6 PM More Books. More Connection. What happens when a community comes together around its public library? A $2 million investment in books and materials. Thanks to the generosity of 195 donors and the support of partners across Louisville, the Metro Million Dollar Match has officially been completed. The match challenged the community to raise $1 million for books and materials, which Louisville Metro agreed to match dollar for dollar. Together, that means $2 million to strengthen the Library's collection and expand access for readers across Louisville. The impact is already being felt. The Library has added more than 197,000 new titles and copies, helping reduce wait times and connect readers with the books they want faster. But the real impact goes beyond books on shelves. Every new title creates an opportunity for connection: a child discovering a favorite story, a student finding answers, or a reader seeing themselves reflected in a book for the first time. The Library's collection is stronger today because this community invested in its public library. Your support ensures Louisville readers continue to find the right book at just the right time.
