Beautifully Broken Modern Kintsugi Grief workshop *CLASS FULL*

About this event

Body

Join COLLIDER Artist-in-Residence Jillian Timberlake for this Beautifully Broken Modern Kintsugi grief workshop. Grief comes in many forms, from losing a loved one to coping with the unexpected disappointments of life. In this workshop, you will break pottery and piece it back together using adapted techniques from the Japanese artform Kintsugi. Using a golden adhesive, you will mend the broken pieces, paying particular attention to how the cracks and fractures are highlighted, not hidden.

Much like when pottery is broken, when loss occurs, there is a definitive “before” and “after”.  Things will never be the same; yet, we are faced with the challenge of what to do next when our lives are shattered by loss. Loss will leave us changed, but this does not mean we cannot find strength and resilience. Writing prompts will be integrated throughout the workshop to help you process your grief through the lens of Kintsugi.

You will leave with your own completed piece of Modern Kintsugi pottery and a Beautifully Broken journal for continued reflection. All pottery will be provided. Due to time limitations, please do not bring your own piece of pottery to repair. Please arrive on time, as it will take the full workshop time to complete the process. Participants will need to sign a participation waiver at the onset of the workshop. Adults only. Space is limited, email Liz.Magee@lfpl.org to sign up.
