Turning Pages: An Anatomy and History of Comics - Short Course

About this event

Body

The term “anatomy” means to “cut up,” and that’s exactly what we’ll do during this short course: dissect a range of comics to see how they work. U of L professor Dr. Joseph Turner will survey and explain the major genres, movements, issues, and tropes that shape what are called “comics,” "graphic novels," or "graphic narratives." Some still maintain that comics is a lesser art form. This course, however, will demonstrate the complex artistry behind the deceptive simplicity of comics and introduce participants to their fascinating form and history.
