Parkland Maker Den

Getting Started

Thank you for your interest in using the Parkland Library’s Maker Den. To utilize the space you must:

Appointment Policies

  • Submit requests 3 business days in advance; requests can be made up to 21 days ahead. Same-day requests may go unanswered. Limit of 1 appointment per week.
  • Appointments, whether for an individual or group, are for one workstation at a time.
  • You may submit up to two active requests at a time. Requests must be for different appointment blocks.
  • Your request is NOT an official appointment until you receive a confirmation email from a staff member. Staff will confirm or suggest alternatives.
  • Appointments are for a two-hour block. Appointments will be held for 15 minutes, and then released. The appointment maker must be present and in the Maker Den for the duration of appointment or until the project is complete, whichever comes first.
  • If a patron needs to leave the Maker Den or is done with their appointment, they must inform the staff person on duty. LFPL is not responsible for a patron’s property or project. Unattended property will be placed in lost and found and unattended projects are subject to cancellation after 15 consecutive minutes. (Exception: Active 3D prints that have received the all-clear from MS staff.)
  • Repeated (3+) failure to no call/no show and/or leaving work unattended without notifying staff will result in removal of Maker Den privileges.
  • Teens (13-17) without a Maker 101 Online Orientation waiver and all children ages 12 and younger must be supervised at all times by an adult guardian who has a Maker 101 Online Orientation waiver on file. Groups with children ages 12 and younger and/or with teens (13-17) who do not have a waiver may reserve 1 workstation per group.
  • Groups are limited to 3 individuals. Groups may occupy only one work station at a time.
  • The Maker Den is not available as a meeting space. The Maker Den is not available on Sundays.
  • Food, drink, gum, candy, and beverages are prohibited in the Maker Den with the exception of water in a twist-top container.
  • Maker Den and their tools are not intended for commercial use.

Materials Statement: All Makerspace tools and hardware are free to use, with an assortment of consumable materials. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own materials for projects on all machines with the exception of 3D printers. No outside filament may be used on 3D printers. Patron-supplied material for any machine is subject to material and dimension limits. Each appointment block is limited to: 2 material types per appointment, 2 sheets/units of each material per appointment. 3 buttons total (any size) per appointment. There is no hard limit on scrap material; however, scrap material is subject to availability, which may be at the discretion of the staff person on duty. Maximum 3D print duration is 8 hours Monday-Thursday and 5 hours Friday-Saturday. Print must be forecasted to finish at least 30 minutes prior to closing regardless of start time.

Please note: The Parkland Maker Den does not have a dedicated printer. If you need to print you must use the 8.5” x 11” white printer paper already in the printer; patrons may not load or use different paper in LFPL printers.
