HISTORY
The Main Library is the nucleus of The Library System. The original South Building, designed by Tachau and Pilcher Architects of New York City, was constructed in 1906 with support from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The contemporary North Building, designed by Louis and Henry Architects of Louisville, was built in 1969 through a bond issue. The new building more than doubled the space in the Main Library. Over 400,000 people per year visit the Main Library.
