Celebrating Our Neighborhood: The History of Cuba

As the largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba has a played a central role in the history of the Americas. Join University of Kentucky historian, Dr. Devyn Spence Benson, on a tour of Cuban history. This presentation will explore the challenges that have preoccupied Cuba since its founding, including experiences with slavery, wars for independence, revolution, and immigration; as well as the resilience of its residents.  Dr. Benson will give audiences a better understanding of Cuban history, with special attention to the experiences of Black Cubans and their fight against racism.
