The Story of Anne Braden and Why It (Still) Matters - Fast Class

About this event

Body

A Louisville native born in 1924 who grew up in Alabama, Anne McCarty Braden turned her back on a promising career as a newspaperwoman to dedicate herself for almost half a century to fierce advocacy for racial and social justice. Charged twice with sedition and arrested multiple times, Braden remained an outspoken writer and organizer locally until her death in 2006.  Dr. Catherine Fosl, Co-Founder of U of L’s Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research, will examine how Braden’s message has helped to shape our community and still resonates today.
